Trichoglossum farlowii (Cke.) Durand. Fruit body 3-8cm high, club-shaped to spear-shaped with a distinct head; black; velvety. Spores 0-5 septate, most commonly 3 septate (divided by 3 walls), 57-75 x 6-7µ. Paraphyses cylindrical, enlarged at apex like a comma. Habitat on moist or wet soil, in moss, or on rotten logs. Found in eastern North America. Season July-October. Not edible.
